Choose the best pipe for the heating system

Some of our clients are wondering which is the best pipe for the heating system, copper or polypropylene, so it is necessary to know the advantages of each type of pipe. The heating system is certainly an extremely important starting point, as the comfort of the home depends largely on it.

Since both types of pipes are easy and quick to install, the analysis will be based on the lifespan of each type of pipe, their thermal transfer coefficient, the corrosion to which they will be subjected, aesthetics, and last but not least, the price.

In Romania, often the price of a product plays a decisive role, however, we should not rely solely on this aspect. If we were to compare copper with polypropylene in terms of price, then we would notice that copper pipes have a higher cost than polypropylene ones.

The next aspect analyzed will be the durability. Here, the copper pipe comes out as the winner, as it has an unlimited lifespan unlike polypropylene, which on average has a lifespan of 50-75 years.

In terms of efficiency, polypropylene pipes are more efficient. Polypropylene, or PPR, has a high resistance to high temperatures, does not lose heat, and has a very low thermal coefficient. If you want to install a heating system buried in the floor, the polypropylene pipe is perfect for that. Similarly, polypropylene is resistant to corrosion.

However, if we talk about the aesthetic factor, copper pipes will win the duel. PPR pipes are more massive, and their accessories are equally unattractive.

In conclusion, both options have strengths and weaknesses. It is important to know all the factors when you want to install a new heating system or when you want to change the radiators. At SupraTherm, you will find a wide range of pipes and consultants to help you choose the right option for you.
